The mATX motherboard on the XPS 8500 uses the H77 chipset. As far as what's missing I would say nothing. The Dell XPS 8500's motherboard just isn't a high end motherboard more suitable for gaming.

H77 is plenty good for gaming. It will not overclock, or do SLI/Crossfire, but that is irrelevant unless you're gaming on multiple monitors. It handles DDR3-1600, which is the current standard with...

I realised that H77 is a PCI-E 2.0 mobo, and GTX680 is supposed to be a PCI-E 3.0 card. So would GTX680 be working on the original XPS8500 mobo at all?

I used to own a XPS 8500 ( i7-3770, 8GB RAM ) and I installed both a MSI GTX 660 and a EVGA GTX 680. It definitely wasn't the same experience I've had with other mobos using those graphic cards.

Yes, 670 or 770 would be cheaper and almost as good at their x80 counterpart.

TheRealHH H77 is plenty good for gaming. It supports PCI-E 16x 3.0 I believe, but even a GTX 680 cannot fully saturate a 2.0 link. Exactly. I think you would have to be running more than one monitor,...

The purpose of the hardware test is to test the system. It doesn't fix anything. So apparently you do not have any hardware issues. So that narrows it down to a software issue.

Again, I would normally try to diagnose this situation with a single memory module. That's why I suggested trying to boot the system with one module. But let's see what the shop comes up with.

Event ID 41 doesn't help too much. It simply indicates the system lost power unexpectedly. What I suggest is that you run the Dell diagnostics to see if there are any hardware issues causing the system...

Should you have any hardware issues with a Dell desktop, then please feel free to post in this forum. Since your issue is really about software, I'm going to lock this thread. Good luck!
