Thanks Chris for the update and for keeping things moving! So much hate on this board. Humanity's finest on display. Will be glad to stop following this thread once the fix is out.

I'll be the most happy person to stop coming here. I surely won't miss you I can guarantee. It's not hate. It's just common sense. Something that Dell totally lack and you obviously don't have.

Forum Post: RE: Dell XPS 8700 and Digital Coax S/PDIF connection
The lack of audio ports on the 8700 is a real bummer, because otherwise it is a very powerful and desirable computer. I talked to five service people on the Dell Chat line, and not a one of them knew what an optical cable port was. It doesn't have a coax port either as far as I can tell.

Time to start pulling the ram sticks and checking them one at a time to see if you can see if they are causing the slow boot.

Forum Post: Aurora R3 video card/bios question
I bought my Alienware Aurora R3 3 years ago, and its been a good solid performer all 3 years. Recently a fan went out on one of my video cards, (AMD Radeon 6870 HD's). A family member heard me talking about it, and bought me 2 XFX Radeon R7 260x as gifts. I can't get them to work.

.... I could have gotten 8GB ... 4GB x 2 of DD2 Ram 800 mhz ... but I don't know how much would be useable... but 800 mhz is more expensive... but it is better supported... maybe 6 GB useable... But I have not tested how much is useable...

this entire ordeal has obviously upset many of us, for good reason no doubt. as much as we may not like wowsers55's attitude, we have to admit, if it wasn't for him and a few other persistent users, we may not have a fast response from Dell.

Anyone know where I can get the webcam software for the S2340T monitor. Need to rebuild system and want to have all software, drivers ready. Not on driver disc that I could see. coupe of years ago when bought , the techs at dell had to search and cobble some stuff together when it first came out.

I'd like to add, though I cannot seem to find the page with the MB specs, that last empty port, the one that requires the removal of the bottom slot to access, has been reported to have a x4 slot, the other two are x1, and of course the single PCIe slot for a GPU.

Forum Post: XPS 8700 onboard ethernet problem in Linux
I got a new XPS 8700 as a Black Friday special. The default Windows 8.1 monstrosity was driving me nuts (would have been a great machine with Win 7 ;-). I pulled the 1 Tb Win 8.1 disk and replaced it with a larger Debian disk from a machine that recently died.

Forum Post: RE: XPS 8700, GTX 970/980, Black Screen on Boot
The only reason Dell is updating the BIOS is because without it, Dell would not be able to deploy any nVidia 9xx Graphics cards in any xps 8700, and like it or not, Dell is stuck with the Haswell architecture for another year. Broadwell won't benefit desktops and Skylake is too far off.
